Blackstage 29.01.2022

On Saturday 29th of January 2022 Blackstage launched it’s first showcase centring pole dancers who were Black and People of Colour. This show took place at The Albany Theatre in Deptford and featured Alexandra Mutungi, Peachy Poler, NK Pole, Zaki Musa, Paige Mallen, Kheanna Walker, A.T, Talitha Lindo, Sabrina Jade and Cutie Whippingham. Each performance was completely unique and choreographed by each performer. The whole event was curated with BPOC in mind from the interval music which was a playlist of BPOC artists, to the food provided to performers which was Berry and Brie and Eat of Eden, two Black-owned businesses and vegan food was ordered from both. This showcase partnered with Nike who filmed BTS of the event for their Instagram stories and also took pictures for their Instagram page. Nike also provided custom Blackstage giftbags for each performer which were duffle bags each containing a custom Blackstage X Nike tracksuit, white Air force 1 trainers, yoga mats, yoga blocks, a water bottle and a pole cleaning cloth. In addition to this, gifting was provided by reign of sovereignity who gave custom thigh garters and Lupit pole who provided grip pads, pole cloths and t shirts to all performers. The whole event was a huge success and each performer was paid a base rate of £680, which when topped up by ticket sales led to each performer earning a total of £958.23 per performance. All event staff were paid upwards of £400 and all transport and accommodation for those working on the showcase was covered by Blackstage.

It was important to us to have a mostly BPOC team of staff working on the showcase and this included our photographer and videographer. Videos for the showcase were taken by Tracy Kiryango of Art Still Exists (ASE) Productions. All photographs were taken on film and digital cameras by Narcography.
